Less Than a P100 bucks Appetizer: The (Ma Po) Tofu

The rainy day season and a series of announcements of floods brought about by the bad weather,  forced us to stay home and do some cooking for some friends who drop by. We have here a great, easy and affordable recipe you can add to your daily meals using Lee Kum Kee's Sauce For Ma Po Tofu.

The main ingredient: Tofu which can be bought from the supermarket near the egg section. We used Momen Tofu, a Japanese tofu brand that we like. You can also buy tofu from your local market which are quite cheap. Just remember to wash them thoroughly before you slice them for this recipe.

How to prepare:
1) Open a fresh pack of tofu...
2) Slice to desired size.
3) Prepare pan and heat the stove.
4) Put 2 1/2 TBSP of cooking (or Sesame) oil. Wait for oil to simmer.
5) Test the oil's temperature by dipping the laddle inside the pan with cooking oil. When the oil simmers, heat is enough.
6) Fry the sliced tofu.
7) Turn each side 'til slightly golden.

Ingredients:

1. You will need a half a clove of medium-sized garlic. Peeled and minced.
2. Five (5) pieces of shallots or one (1) onion. Peeled and chopped.
3.  1  1/2 TBSP. vinegar or two (2) pcs. of calamansi. Squeezed the calamansi to get the juice.

Prepare the Tofu Sauce:

In a bowl, mix the garlic, onions and 1/8 cup of Lee Kum Kee's sauce. Add vinegar or calamansi juice and adjust the taste. Then serve with the fried tofu. This preparation's good for three (3).

Enjoy!

    1. Hi Preceptible,
The stuff's good as an appetizer. But if you're referring to the LKK Sauce For Ma Po Tofu, it can be used as marinate for meats. For veggies, you need to add some more seasonings to fit your particular taste.

      Cheers,
      Veronica G.
