Rooms For Improvement: Manila Business Permit Processing
Suggestion Box Needed
January calls for a lot of office duties for our office staff. These include renewal permits and licenses, insurances and everything that fall under securing what is necessary for your business.
And just like every year, Manila City Hall looks like this...filled with waiting (tired, thirsty and hungry) people. You have to a lot a whole day waiting for your papers to be processed. You might as well cancel any appointment you have on that day. And if you are your own boss, prepare for a day (make that 3 days) without profit for your business, since you can't be at your office while waiting for your papers (which will only be ready a month after regardless if they're releasing a tin business plate or a computer-generated certificate ;-) ) Alas, you will also discover that you will at least visit the place three (3) times because to be able to process your papers, you need to have a Business Resident Certificate (and securing an Insurance coverage for your business) which entails a whole day of lining up for your turn. Another day for the Zoning and Fire Safety fees and filing the complete caboodle. By the way, last year a Zoning Processing officer told filers that a single zoning fee is enough for one business, so you don't pay fees every time you renew. The basis - zoning is done once not every year. Now, the Zoning Processing officers are telling us that we have to pay every year, but we met several filers who were not asked to pay for Zoning fees. A majority of these filers are knowing now the reason why there is no Suggestion Box in Business Processing area.
Increased in Fees
The fees increased; last year there was more than 50 percent increase in the processing fees and this year a whooping 66 percent increase! Cash increase also means cash increase in the budget of city hall, so we are really eager to see the improvements they will implement these coming days. We hope it will be beneficially for the businesses (and I hope it reaches the area where we have our office) since we already spent money before we even had our first profit for the year.
Now, I am not wondering why a lot of my friends outside of the Philippines are not confident to put up a business here in the country. They say---- it's a lot of hassle and a load of headaches to put one!
