National Geographic's Scam City Feedback
Scam City on Prague
After watching National Geographic's Scam City's episode on Prague, I have now decided that I am now removing Prague as a tourist destination in the future for my future travels! In essence, it's a place where tourists are not safe.
If you've been "scammed" or robbed, the police authorities cannot help you as the locals say that the police authorities just make themselves visible but not to the point of protecting any tourist that has been harmed by locals even if you make a complain! Oh, it really sucks when you find that nobody can really help you in a foreign country! Thinking that Prague can only offer its country's architecture and that's it, nothing more.
Just like in any corrupt country, the taxi drivers especially from the Euro and AAA taxis have a way of robbing tourists of their monies. From charging 3 times than the usual fare (their taxis are equipped with "turbo" meters that shoots up fare prices when pressed) to connecting with bars that really don't offer any, but just squeezing all the money they can get from you (in the Philippines, this is called "bagansya" or "holdup") and doubles as a pimp for bars who literally takes the tourist's cash from their pockets.
They will rob you even if you're not drunk or you just had a drink and not looking for any type of companionship. By the way, these taxi drivers also carry guns! As if this can give you a peace of mind. This act just confirms that Prague taxi drivers can use this as a holdup's primary tool.
The host was literally shoved to the side, almost hurt by a pimp who teams up with the bouncer and the female who traps the host. She acted as if she was innocent and was not part of the scam, though it was really obvious that she knows how she will make the host/tourist join her to be robbed at the back of the bar. The host was not allowed to leave the bar unless he pays them 500 euros. To get his freedom and end his nightmare, he gave them 350 euros since that was the only money left in his pocket.
I just wonder if Richard Gutierrez, a local actor and the GMA staff had any encounter like this when they visited Prague. Hmmm...For sure, I will never go there, even if they have all sorts of "nice" architecture. It's not just worth the time and money.
