If you live in the Philippines, there are various ways to spend your weekend. You can go to a spa, have a massage. Go to a gym and hang-out with friends, but of course, I'm sure you've already done that during the week days. Since, it's becoming an "in" thing these days to spend your weekends with your family or go for a stroll on the countryside for a change of scenery! And, that's what we did. Since we have relatives all over Laguna and cousins stay in a nearby campus, the UPLB. During a visit this weekend, we checked this famous monument inside the UP Los Banos campus, the "kwek-kwek" monument. It is said that it was nicknamed as such due to its resemblance to a local street food in Manila, the kwek-kwek which is like fishballs, but only made differently.
The place where it stood becomes a park and a favorite hang-out for students, kids, families with kids during weekends when the weather is good for a stroll and picnic since the UPLB campus has a lot nice spots where you can enjoy the sceneries with all the greens and neat century-old trees and park-like gardening all around the area. UPLB is not your usual campus like the one in the city, that's why it's so unique and refreshing!
Here some of my photos of the favorite "kwek-kwek"(which refers to a fried, usually colored orange, one day old chick-- a favorite street food snack in Manila) monument.
When a nephew saw the monument, he can't help play around the area. Well, his mom just let him be in this photo...
He had an instant slide! His mom (not seen in photo) just have to watch nearby so, she can catch him at once for any slip, though. ;-)
This is the famous Agricultural University in the Philippines. I have been there once when I did my gig at IRRI. Very nice atmosphere and you should not miss the famous Buko Pie
ReplyDeleteHi Preceptible,
ReplyDeleteYes, the place is famous for agricultural scientists (countries who greatly invest in food and rice agriculture schooled their scholars at IRRI), nutritionists and of course, Buko Pies or young coconut pies! It's a place where you can have a feast from buko pies ;-)
Cheers,
